Second year geophysics Ph.D. student, John “Jack" Albright, has been awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. Prior to joining Professor Trish Gregg’s group at the University of Illinois, Jack completed a B.A. in Geology at Pomona College, and a Frontiers Abroad program at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. Jack's doctoral research focuses on combining volcano-monitoring data sets with multiphysics finite element models, in order to provide forecasts of volcanic unrest. Jack is currently investigating the 2008 eruption of Okmok Volcano, Alaska, to understand better what triggered this event.
