We’ve got exciting news to share! The Department of Geology will now be known as the Department of Earth Science & Environmental Change!

As our field has diversified and become more interdisciplinary, the faculty have decided that we need a department name that reflects these changes. After a lot of discussion both internally and with the College of LAS, we will now be known as the Department of Earth Science & Environmental Change. Our undergraduate major will continue to be called ‘Geology’. While we will still stress the important geology curriculum and research we always have, this name change also symbolizes the important work we do in the environmental sector, like with water resources or climate change. To new and potential students, we hope you’ll be able to join us in this important field, and to our alumni, we hope you’ll visit the new Department of Earth Science & Environmental change soon!
