Petroleum Experts has renewed through December 2024 a grant of a collection of industry-leading software packages to the Illinois State Geological Survey and the Department of Earth Science and Environmental Change to use in research and education.  This includes the MOVE and IPM software suites. This software enhances ISGS capabilities in subsurface interpretation and reservoir simulation, and helps students pursue their undergraduate and graduate research. The yearly value of this grant is more than $6.5 million.

The MOVE software is the most complete structural geology modeling and analysis toolkit available, providing an integrated platform for interpreting data, cross-section construction, 3D model building, kinematic restoration and validation, geomechanical modeling, fracture modeling, fault response modeling, sediment modeling, and fault and stress analysis. The complete software package awarded also includes Integrated modules for digital field mapping applications for data collection using smartphone and tablet. The IPM suite of tools will enhance ISGS capabilities in reservoir simulation, including design of complete field models and optimization of fluid injection and production modeling.

Thank you, Petroleum Experts! If you'd like to know more, please contact Dr. Sherilyn Williams-Stroud <sherilyn@illinois.edu>, an affiliate faculty member in the department who serves as the UIUC contact for this grant.
